ABOUT ME

I'm Dr. Mike Moses, founder and lead pastor of Lake Forest Church in Huntersville, NC.

Open Mike is a forum where I am more open than my sermons, and I interact with you over a fresh imagining of what it means to follow Jesus.

More about me, music on my iPod, favorite links and friends in the blogoshpere.

    Books Beside My Bed

    • Brian Sanders: Underground Church: A Living Example of the Church in its Most Potent Form
This church planter/author is going to video into my church planting class this june. I'm reading new books by creative church planters and trainers, ahead of teaching Gordon-Conwell's class "Church Planting in a Post-Christian Context" this June.
    • Steigerwald: Dynamic Adventure: A Guide to Starting and Shaping Missional Churches
I'm reading new books by creative church planters and trainers, ahead of teaching Gordon-Conwell's class "Church Planting in a Post-Christian Context" this June.
    • Editors Volf, Muhammad, Yarrington: A Common Word: Muslims and Christians on Loving God and Neighbor
This was my reading on way to and from Cairo in January. Taught me a lot about current thought streams within Islam in particular.
    • Fikkert and Kapic: A Field Guide To Becoming Whole: Principles for Poverty Alleviation Ministries
getting ready to dig into this
    • Saint Augustine: Teaching Christianity
Soaking myself, as a teacher of Christianity, in the thoughts of one of the great theologians or 'doctors' of the church in antiquity.
    • David Berlinski: The Devil's Delusion: Atheism and It's Scientific Pretensions
A Dr. in our congregation turned me onto this - its very good. written by a self-described secular Jew.
    • Angie Moses: Flying Home

      Angie Moses: Flying Home
My wife Angie published her first novel a few years ago. #1 I'm proud of her. #2 It's stinkin' good (tension between dreams and duty for a young mother). #3 This book will never be published and stocked in a 'Christian' bookstore with the picture of a beatific looking prairie woman on the front wearing a bonnet - there's grittiness of real life like happens to real people, and perhaps some grace. #4 This link is to the Kindle version, look below for paperback also. #5 Angie had in mind precisely the type of 'given up on church but not on God' folks we love so much to welcome at Lake Forest as she wrote.
